Dissection March 2010

January of 2010 I was asked during a class in which assisting, "When are you going to do another dissection?"

"When ever I have enough people."

A couple months later we were back in the Baltimore lab dissecting away. Another full lamenectory, but this time it proved to be much harder. Harder literally. The man's bones were hard as rocks. Two doctors came in to check out what we were into and took a turn at the chisel. They were amazed how difficult the bones were to cut through.

Once finally exposing the dural tube we explored among other anatomy the cauda equina, conus medularis, nerve roots and coccyx. Then we went up to the head to open it up.

Finally after breaking three drill bits, $orry Bill, we were able to view the vascular impressions on the internal aspect of the cranium made by the blood vessels just deep to the dura mater.

Lots of touchy and feely with the dura, brain tissue, intracranial membrane and even the pituitary!
